sfcole
I've seen a few people swear by subjecting their lenses to sunlight to kill fungus. I'm not worried about the heat because of the time of year. My question is: do you actually see a reduction of the fungus? My Leitz Elmarit 2.8 135 is really infested--I can see filaments all through the lens, including a big spot. There also appears to be filiments on the viewfinder goggles. I was going to send it to DAG for cleaning, but if I could get rid of a lot the fungus I'll hold off. shambrick007
Even if you do "kill" it, I'm sure the residue will remain....
bobatkins
I doubt that sunlight will fix it, but it's free to try! Obviously if the fungus has actually etched into the coating or even the glass itself (which it will do in time), you can't "cure" that by exposure to sunlight. JDMvW
Another kind of fix, originally proposed for 'yellowing' of Takumars with radioactive rare earths, will also work for lenses with fungus: http://www.hermes.net.au/bayling/repair.html sorry, but I DO so love this solution to the problem. bobbuck19
that's a crime in some states! and smashing a lens is questionable also.
