eric_freedman
Seems to me after reading numerous posts that the rave lens for the 40D is the 17-55 2.8. I have seen the 5D kitted with the 24-105. Wish they would go a little upscale and give us a deal on this combo rather than the 17-85 or 28-135 kits now available. Actually, I can't understand the 28-135 kit with the crop factor.
William Michael
I see the `equivalent` of EF-S17 to 55F2.8IS on a 40D as the 24 to 70 F2.8L on the 5D. >>> I can't understand the 28-135 kit with the crop factor. <<< (EF) To `target` the sports shooter? bobatkins
"Actually, I can't understand the 28-135 kit with the crop factor" I can. Canon are trying to sell 28-135 lenses. They probably have no trouble selling 17-85 lenses, so why put them in a kit. I don't expect to see a 40D + 17-55/2.8 kit and even if there was one I doubt there would be a big discount on it. PuppyDigs
Any good dealer can whip ya up a 40D/17-55 kit and shave a wee bit off the top. Who cares if you get 2 separate boxes instead of one big one... Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
mark u
Canon offered a wide range of lens kits some with high end specialised lenses in Europe last year, taking advantage of the fact that a lens sold with a body as a kit doesn't attract duty as it would when sold separately. So I would think it's quite possible that such kits will be offered in Europe.
._._z
Currently $1150 for the 40D, $999 for the lens -- how much did you hope to get for a kit?
wes_baker1
I'm kind of glad I got the 28-135 with my 40D. I already had a 10-22, and I got rid of my old 18-55 in hopes of getting the 17-55 soon. The 28-135 is a nice lens for medium/long purposes. phill_tornroth
I still can't sort out what I'm supposed to use the 28-135 for, so ours is getting sold (nice that they go for a bit more than the kit difference on craigslist!)... The lens is just never what I want it to be.. 28 isn't wide enough, 135 isn't long enough, and the lens is too slow for me to use it anywhere near 50 prime territory. It seems that Canon's had trouble keeping the 17-55 in stock, anyways. Ours is finally on it's way after putting in a wait-and-see order at adorama a couple weeks ago.
