mark_a11664881497
Have agreed to purchase M2 from brother-in-law who has one to spare (he has several III???s, another M2, M3 and M6). Would appreciate some assistance re price (in pounds or dollars). M2 is in reasonable condition and shutter speeds seem ok (shot a couple of rolls through it), but probably requires CLA sometime in the near future - say a year or so, as has not been used much over the last 5 - 8 years. It would also be of help if someone could give some idea of price on the ff lenses: 35 cron, version before asp in pristine condition, 50 lux second or third version, and 90 2.8 me thinks also quite an old version (solid looking metal thing). Erm, we both agree that dealer prices should not dictate price. Any comments welcome. If were to buy 2 of the lenses, which would you suggest? Have 2 R7 s and lenses ranging from 24 to 180. PS this will be my first M although have been loaned M2 s, M3 s and an M6 in the past (his). Many thanks in advance.
vick_ko
Check ebay for street price, check www.keh.com for realistic price. ...Vick
knut_schwinzer
Brother-in-law? Your buy should be in-law, then! The pick of lenses, also his stock?! Relax, buy, and take it easy! If something doesn't work out as desired, you might insist on family honour and ask your mother-in-law for advice...:)
mark_a11664881497
Vick, yes will check prices on sites you suggest. Don't think he wants to make a profit out of it. He bought about 20 years ago although he can't remember exactly how much for. Knut, yes, lenses his also, has a stack of about 40. He's happy for me to have them at a reasonable price (not dealer, and not necessarily at a profit at what he paid for them). Lol, m in law! She's not about, sadly, or I'd have em all for free. Nice lady. Good advice all round. Which lenses though, 2 out of 3, mostly for street. I expect the 35 and 50.
knut_schwinzer
M2 is perfect with this 35! 35 is perfect for street! The rest you might borrow now and then... Cheers!
wgpinc
$700 each for the M2 body, 35mm summicron and 50mm summilux would be fair prices on the low end of the market. Good luck!
mukul_dube
A 35 and 90 combination will give flexibility.
orvillerobertson
Check one of the major Leica dealers for at least a price guideline. I would check Tamarkin.com or similar. The M2 is my favorite early M camera, though I've handled it only once 10 years ago. I'd get all of the lenses offered and start shooting.
35mmdelux
are you placing the price or is he? will he offer family rate?
mark_a11664881497
Thanks for all the advice folks. Have agreed a price at $600 for the M2 and $680 for the 35 cron. May purchase other lenses in due course and will try to post a couple of pics when work out how to do so. Thanks again.

patzere4
Hi: The age of the items should be no mystery. A number of the Leica guides have reasonably accurate charts for production dates based on serial numbers. Of course, that's only part of the story.
