rnt
What PC type? What OS? How is the drive connected? What is the make of the drive? Have you formatted it? Can you see it from whatever file browser your machine has?
afs760bf
Most external hard drives now are USB, and when you plug them in to a USB port, the computer automatically recognizes it as a mass storage device, makes it available, and lists it in the list of drives. Have you tried simply dragging and dropping the files instead of doing some sort of technical "backup?" You could try using the "find new hardware" command and see if it locates the drive. Other than that, I would suspect that the external drive is bad.
petemillis
Tommy, are you sure you haven't just bought a hard drive enclosure?

JosvanEekelen
Probably the same issue I have with a Lacie drive. There is some protection software that you have to run first. It's all in the manual (I have to read it myself as well).
