xpiotiavos
Anyone setting out to photograph the eclipse tonight? If so, what kind of gearare you using? And does anyone want to loan me a telescope with an attachment for my ist DL? ;) otherwise i'm stuck with doing what I can with my sigma 70-300mm. it's thelongest lens i've got :(
joshschutz
i'm headed out for a full moon/ lunar eclipse snowshoe hike tonight. i'm using a 70-300 which i don't think will be too bad. you don't need photos of just the moon. honestly i would prefer to have some environmental shots of mountains and what not around. a few images
Looks like we'll be in cloud cover but if we're not - 10:26pm is the golden moment I'm shooting for. Exactly mid-eclipse on the east coast US.
miserere_mei
I've got a Sigma 70-300mm and a 2x TC. Was testing the combo last night and I think I'll stick with just the Sigma @ 300mm and f11. Here's a decent site with tips: http://www.mreclipse.com/LEphoto/LEphoto.html I'll be freezing in Boston, but I'll be out there! PS: Everyone remember to remove your UV filters, OK? michaelc
I plan to be out with my Tamaron 60-300mm f5.6. the forecast for Saskatoon is clear and cold (-20c)(0F). the price you pay for a decent shooting opportunity.......:)
mc2imaging
Yeah, I've been studying the Mr. Eclipse site since Christmas with tonight in mind, and solid cloud cover just rolled in 30 minutes ago... I was going to use the intervalometer on one camera with the 16-50mm and do a multiple exposure. The other camera was going to get the 500mm w/ 2x TC... donnie_strickland
That's an idea, Matthew. Normally I use my Pentax 75-300 FAJ-AL with the Pentax 2X TC...I might break out the Seikanon 500mm mirror...Whatcha think?
ctwdaz
Wouldncha know - Northern Ariz is in the clouds today, of all days. Hoping for a little break, but right now it doesn't look good.
xpiotiavos
yeah, i'm not too hopeful either. clear skies for now in Auburn, AL. but there are clouds in the forecasts, and i've gotta work tonight... boo for jobs (that aren't photography jobs). david richhart
Well it's 7:30 here in Ohio and the thick snow-bearing clouds we had most of the day are gone ;0D
As I sit at the kitchen table typing this, I can see the big bright full moon staring in at me through the window. I plan to go out and greet him in a little while, but damn it's c-c-cold out there ;0(
revolver
I took a few test shots and I am not getting anything worth a crap. the temps just took a dive south too so its not Ideal out there
donnie_strickland
Well, it's perfectly cloudy now, just in time to obscure the moon. Fiddlesticks....
miserere_mei
I'm typing with my nose, because my hands are frozen. I have one tip for you guys: Don't use a 2x TC with a cheap lens!!! :-D I think I have some decent(ish) shots with the Sigma at 300mm. We'll see... Oh, we had intermittent clouds that gave way to a nice, thin haze. Ruined a lot of shots.
mc2imaging
Was all of N. America covered by clouds tonight? Well, at least nobody else got any good shots either...
david richhart
Well I did get a few shots, though nothing spectacular... been a loooong time since I "shot the moon"

nldimaging
Here's what I got tonight, wish my lens didn't suck so much, the K10 was better with the 50-135, but the crop was just as soft.
personalphotos
I wish I still had my Bigma for this. Used the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 with 1.7 tc. cropped 50% but the colours were good even if the fingers were too frozen to get it sharp as I would have liked. miserere_mei
Here's one guy with a good shot. Sigma will be selling lots of these in Pentax mount tomorrow.

By the way, my fingers have unfrozen now (a can type with them). I just want to thank everyone that e-mailed me with concern about my fingers. Your hearts are bigger than your lenses.
snik75
Thanks for posting this, I had no idea! I was able to get out before it ended at least. Clear here in Wisconsin, but -11 degrees = cold fingers. Here's the best I could do with my 80-200mm M zoomed out and a 2x TC - no tripod, bracing on my car.

snik75
And now for something completely different....

xpiotiavos
Well, the old 70-300 has impressed me yet again. i swear, for $130, this lens is fantastic. cropped, color balanced, rotated, sharpened, etc. in Lightroom:
