mike_pender1
Hi, I am trying to locate (2) battery covers for my Canon EF SLR. The EF was built on the F-1 Frame, but used 2 batteries, so I imagine that the battery covers were interchangeable? I'm having a hard time finding these covers. Any ideas? I can't find any sources online thus far. Thanks for the help! I am able to manually use it, but would like to have the meter working.
steven_moseley1
Hi, Mike, the chances of finding some dealer having these very old and scarce items in stock is nil...I cannot see anyone having parts for the now very old FD system. The only way I can suggest of finding some is to post wanted ads on specific Canon forums or perhaps find an EF that is for 'repair' and canabalise it. Or..you could contact some camera repairers. There are often non working cameras on evil bay. cheers Steve.M.
richard_oleson
Have you looked at "beljanmfg" on eBay? He makes battery covers and motor covers for OM cameras, plus some tools and things... maybe he has something that would fit. I've made a battery cover for a TLb before, it's not rocket science for someone with a lathe.
mike_pender1
Thanks for the information. Maybe I'll find a parts camera somewhere. In the meantime I can still use it, thank goodness the engineers at Canon allowed the camera to still be used without batteries! I'll just have to dig out my exposure meter. gordon_yee
If you can't find the original flat-sided covers used on the EF and the mechanical F-1, the covers from any of the Canon SLRs powered by the PX13 and PX625 batteries will work (e.g., FTb/TX/TLb/Pellix/FT/TL/FX). These are thicker than the original EF covers so they will not be flush with the base plate. Parts cameras will probably be the quickest and easiest source. gordon_yee
In addition, some of the Canon accessories that were powered by the PX625 batteries used compatible covers that were flat, such as the Booster Meter for the FTb/Pellix/FT. These sources, however, may be more expensive than parts cameras.
