Canon 50mm f/.95... whats the mount?

The rangefinder version of the Canon 50mm f0.95 uses and outside bayonet mount only found on the Canon 7 model rangefinders. It is not a screw mount lens. There is also a common version of this lens with a Television camera mount that does not have a rf cam and has no way to focus via a rangefinder camera.

There are people who modify both to fit LTM or M mount bodies. In both cases it's rather expensive.

I have some doubts whether this lens can be converted to LTM. The rear lens is so big that it even needs a cut-out for the rangefinder coupling tab, so probably there is no place for a threaded collar around it (actually the Canon7 it was designed for has an LTM mount, so there must be some reason for the external mount). But it seems possible to convert the bayonet or the TV version to Leica M mount.

If you can live with half an f-stop less, you should consider the Canon f/1.2 50mm lens which comes with LTM mount... and sells for much less than the f/0.95.

Even if you find a fast M39 lens and a M39-Nikon adapter this will not help you too much. The lens register (distance rear lens to film) is MUCH smaller with M39 lenses (since there is no space needed for a flapping mirror). So any M39 lens mounted to an SLR (via an adaptor) will NEVER focus to infinity and can be used for close-up shots only.

Lens register for M39 is something around 27mm, for most SLR it's in the 43 to 48mm range.

The Canon 50/0.95, as already mentioned, comes with a special mount for the Canon 7. But a handful of Leica repair people have converted the lens to fit both the Leica screw-mount and Leica-M series. One who has done it is Don Goldberg [DAG] dagcamera@chorus.net Here's a picture previously posted by someone here of the lens adapted for the Leica-M...

>The fastest lens for Nikon F mount is the 50/1.2 AIS

The Noct-Nikkor 58/1.2 is not any slower.

The size of the rear element prevents it from LTM conversion. But you can convert an LTM camera to take the lens: http://cameraquest.com/ruskie_fed_95.htm

Anyway, there's no point in trying to fit rangefinder lenses to SLRs because of the short back focus. (You could adapt Visoflex lenses but that's another topic.)
