Soft proofing colors

Recommended Posts

I am using an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 and soft proofing for Epson Premium Luster

paper with epson's ICC profile. On most pictures I am able to adjust back to

the non-soft proof look (Blues do give me a little trouble). However, on trying

to soft-proof a sunset that has an orange-red sky, I am unable to adjust the

colors back to the original look using layer adjustment such as: Hue-Saturation-

Lightness, Brightness-contrast, Curves, Selective color. Initially I tried

global changes, then the red-yellow in hue and saturation but, there is always

a very noticeable difference in the look of the original and soft proof

picture. Any suggestions. Using CS3 on a monitor that is calibrated using

Spyder2.

If the colors are out of gamut for that device, they are out of gamut. Its possible you can't

bring back the original color appearance. The idea is to see what WILL come off the printer

and edit as closely as you can to produce a color appearance you desire.

Thanks for the replies. I have never used the gamut warning menu, since, I was not printing my own pictures in the past. Probably this is one of the many reasons that I was not happy with others printing my pictures. This helps a lot. I had spent hours just trying to adjust to the original on a few pictures.
