keith_lubow
Hello, I have recently been offered a Schneider Symmar-S 300mm f/5.6 in DB mount. (I would prefer lenses in this mount, as they are cheaper and work on my camera.) The guy was asking $500, but realized it had some fungus, so he told me he was no longer selling it. I said I might be interested anyhow, and he said $275. I have no way of seeing the lens in person. It seems DB lenses usually go for about 1/2 to 2/3 of the price of the lens in a shutter. I am assuming the lens will need at least $100 in work to clean the fungus out. Do you think it is worth it, assuming $400 total investment will get this lens into top same? Also, this lens has an aperture ring on the front, unlike my 210 in DB mount. Does this mean that the 300mm has to have the aperture set like normal, and that the side dial won't work? Side dial goes up to f/45 and the lens has f/64 min. aperture. Pardon my silly questions as I get used to the whole behind-the-lens shutter and Sinars in general. I am coming from a Graphic View II and two lenses (127 and 180). Thanks, Keith

michael_briggs2
If the fungus has been on the lens long enough, it may have etched the glass irreparably. So there is no guarantee that the lens can be repaired to as-new condition. I'd pass; there are other lenses out there.
khoa_nguyen3
why do you have to buy the lens with fungus. Take your time, keep your eyes open , something good will come up . Lasttime i bought a nikkor-m 300mm f9 from the Bay for $310, like new .
