kerry_grim
Perhaps as a wildlife lens, it is better to learn your subject and how to approach closely!
mike_broderick
I think it would be great. Just build a tower in your backyard, put this lens with the 2x tc mounted on a 1.6 crop dslr in the tower, and you can instantly photograph any subject anywhere in your state or province! Think of the gasoline savings.
doug herr
"<I>Think of the gasoline savings</I>" <P> Good thing too, 'cuz carting this thing around would drop your mpg by half. This lens would be great for those photographers who never venture more than 100ft from their SUV. <P> And DOF? What DOF?
charles_reid
"They aren't usually backpacking miles from the trailhead or bashing through really rugged terrain, but walk they do" At 1000mm + 2x crop factor (4/3rds system. Eat your hearts out Nikon/Canon guys hehe) thats 2000mm. Who needs to walk. Mount it on your car and shoot the chickadee in the next county! I was gonna say house.. but youd have to sell your house to afford it.. course youd have to sell your car for a filter..
douglas_greenberg
I agree with Mark--Sigma is probably thinking in terms of having some of these operating at the Beijing Olympics later this year. In a sports setting in low light from a fairly fixed location, this could be a very useful lens. For wildlife, we all can see that its size and weight would be deal-killers. drfuzz3899
Why buy a digital Hassleblad system when you can buy a 200-500mm f/2.8? =P This is an unbelievable waste of production, but I'm sure it could have uses in sports that are probably valuable. Me, I'll stick with my 80-200mm f/2.8 and just walk closer to the subject.
