musubi1000
The early Hitachi MDs were some of the most unreliable drives I've ever seen. I've seen drives go straight from the wrapper to being sent back to the manufacturer. I don't want to sound so negative but if you haven't already tried to format it cross your fingers and give it a go otherwise you may be out of luck. On the bright side a new solid state flash card should only cost about 50 bucks and should be a thousand fold times more reliable.
rainer_t
If you cannot access it via your cardreader, and even an attempt to format via cardreader fails, its very likely that the drive is defective and needs to be replaced. (preferably by a flash-card.)
