rubens_t_vora
Dear, I own a D2H and a SB600.Now I would like to improve my lightning techniques with more than one speedlights. Reading some post I could presume that the first step is buying a SB 800 to become a commander and put SB 600 as slave. But I got a few questions: a) Is possible, in a small scheme, with one SB 800 and one SB 600, put the SB 800 out of the camera ( as a commander) connected by a cord, or he must stay attached on body camera? b) What cord is best compatible with my body and SB600 and SB800? c) Is there any other Speedlight from Nikon that works as slave cheaper than SB600? Thanks for Help!Rubens
alan_huett
A and B) I think one of the Nikon TTL cords - SC28 will work in this fashion. The SC29 adds a focus light. I am not 100% sure that either of these will work with off-camera CLS though - you will want to check with Nikon - perhaps it says in the Sb800 manual? C) No :-(
ShunCheung
Since the D2H has no pop-up flash that can server as commander, you must use the SB-800 as commander and it needs to be connected to the D2H with a flash cord. Either the SC-28, SC-29 or the older SC-17 will do the job. As an alternative, you can buy an additioinal SU-800 commander and put that on the D2H, but the SU-800 is not a flash itself and it costs almost as much as a SB-800. Other than the SB-800 and SB-600, the only other Nikon flash that can be used as a slave in CLS is the SB-R200, which is a small flash mainly for macro and product shots. The SB-400 cannot be used as a slave.
ldw
The SC-29 will add a focus light that does come in handy. I would seriously consider buying an SU-800, the wireless flexibility it provides makes things a lot simpler when moving flashes around.
