Bastille day fireworks

My family and I will be in Paris on Bastille day - probably a once-in-a-

lifetime photo opportunity for me. I want to get some classic (or perhaps, for

the more jaded among us, cliched) images of fireworks around the Eiffel tower.

Where is the best spot to try to set up one's tripod for such shots? Looking at

maps in guide books, I'm guessing maybe the Champs de Mars. I'd be grateful for

suggestions from anyone with some experiemnce shooting Bastille day fireworks.

From across the bridge in front of the Awful Tower, or the steps behind the bridge that go

up to the (I think) Radio France building.

Hint to anyone else who'll be in France on July 14 - almost every town and village will have a

spectacular FW display, Except some may move it to a July 13 or 15 to avoid clashing with

neighbouring displays.<div></div>

We were in Strasbourg last year on Bastille day, and enjoyed the huge fireworks event there. You'll find a lot of examples of Paris on Bastille day <a href=" target="blank">on Flickr like this page</a>. I don't think that the use of of a tripod will be possible because of the crowd, but it may even be illegal to use a tripod there.
