novice lightroom question

ok, downloaded free trail of Lightroom.

how the heck do I import a picture to work on?

it's got to be simple

but still on first cup of coffee

Go to the File menu selection and select either "Import Photos from Disk" (i.e. HD, CD, etc) or "Import Photos from Device" (i.e. Camera, scanner, card reader etc), answer the questions in the pop-up window and hit (if I recall correctly), "OK"

Do as Glen pointed out or choose "Import" at the bottom left of the Library mode. Lightroom is aimed more at importing a group of images either from a card or folder, so importing just one is confusing. When importing just one image, choose "Open" instead of "Choose Selected".

many thanks. I'll give that a try. I was trying to import from My Pictures and getting nowhere. Thanks and happy new year !

I often just drag and drop the particular image files I want to import, when I'm not importing

a whole directory, onto the Lightroom grid or even the application icon. It will open the

import dialog and allow me to set presets, keywords, etc, then do the import operation.

 

I don't know whether this works on Windows systems, but it works very well on Mac OS X.
