suk_jung_choo
Hi, I posted this question in the medium format section but am reposting in the RZ section in the hopes of getting more replies. I own a RZ pro II and I never realized if this was a problem or not but on a chance occurrance, I came across a RZ 67 in a shop and compared the movement of the focusing knob between the two cameras. I was surprised how much seamless and smoother the movement of the RZ was compared to the pro II. With the pro II when you move the focusing knob, especially rapidly, you can feel it to be much more coarse and actually hear the low frequency droning of the gear movements against each other. I did drop it once on the floor and had it repaired twice but no one could actually fix the problem. Anyone with an Rz in a similar condition after a similar event? fotografz
Did you make sure you released the locking lever, or whether it's slightly engaged? There are two focusing knobs on the RZ Pro-II, one for gross movement, and the other for micro movement.
suk_jung_choo
Thanks for your reply, but nope that's not the problem. I think it's related to the trauma of the fall. I'm just curious if anyone has had a similar experience and if in their opinion it really is inconsequential. As fas as I can tell, other than the palpable sense of the gears grinding against each other it otherwise seems to be working fine.
spanky
I've noticed on a number of 2nd hand bodies have some very stiff and difficult focusing. Sounds like you may have bent something when the camera landed after it's fall. If you need a qualified, factory trained tech to look at it and give you an estimate and/or repair email me for the info. All he works on is Mamiya and he handles all the outsourced repairs in the LA area and a considerable amount from abroad. All work comes with a warranty, he uses factory parts and is on par (even a little less in some cases) with sending it to Mamiya in NY.
suk_jung_choo
Marc, thanks so much for the info. For now, I'm just going to use it because it's not causing any real problems other than driving me a bit nuts now and then, but when I do decide on an overhaul I'd like look up the guy you are referring to. SJ Seoul, Korea.
