rsabina
I am purchasing a 70-200 f4 L lens and I am wondering whether anyone wants to share if they use it with the Canon 1.4 Telextender. Any suggestions ? Has anyone had problems with Autofocus using this trio?
zackojones
I used a rental version of that lens and Canon 1.4x extended and it worked just fine. You do lose a stop so you max aperture is 5.6 instead of 4.0.
mlindberg1
Use it all the time. I have had no problems.
mark u
AF will be slower with the TC, but it should be accurate. Image quality is very close to the bare lens.
mark_chappell
Ditto the above: the 1.4X gives good image quality with either of the two 70-200/4 lenses (IS or no IS).
cnhoff
I have it with a Kenko 1.4x teleconverter and while wide open it is a little softer than without, stopped down one stop sharpness is there again. I am using it on a 30D when shooting wildlife, mostly at f/8, and am rather happy with AF and IQ.
dougolupski
I run a 70-200 f2.8 with the 1.4x on my 30D and it has pretty good quality. I mean for the price you beat it for the range and quality. On my 2.8 it does focus slower, sometimes at race tracks I will miss a shot or two of the cars but what can you do it's a lot cheaper than a 300mm. You should be very happy with it. joel_rosenthal
Here's one with the 70-200F4 non IS and 1.4 tc shot w 30D. I am selling the lens though because at 60 yrs old, shooting small birds at max telephoto I need the IS for steadiness.Great lens though..
robin_sibson1
I have been very pleased with the 70~200/4L IS and Extender 1.4x combination on both FF and 1.6-factor, so I would recommend it with confidence; the 70~200/4L IS on its own is of stunning quality. However, with the Extender 2x II, not only do you lose AF (except on 1-series) and a stop, but as far as I can see from tests that I have conducted, no additional detail is revealed compared to use of the Extender 1.4x. pjmeade
I've used that combination on my 20D. The results have been very pleasing (to me). It focusses a little slower than without the extender, but just as accurately.
