dxphoto
Hi, Great news to me for Xmas. my rebel XT just died after 18 months. I took ashot, took the CF card out, then switch to a EF 35mm f2 lens on, then put the cfcard back (without putting the power off). the first thing I noticed is thecamera was not responding, the mono-lcd panel was on but not changing even Iswitch the camera off. I took the battery out and in, the camera is notresponding... I am not sure how much this will cost me to have it fixed. Do you guys knowanyone with good reputation in boston area that can take a look at it? Thanks. -D
nhut-nguyen
Dismount your lens, and mount it back on again...Don't celebrate just yet :) j/k. A brand new Rebel XT body on B&H is only $395.
jo7hs2
I'm going to take Sinh Nhut Nguyen's advise one step further. Remove the battery. Then remove the 35/2, and put another lens on the camera, to exclude the lens as a possibility.
nhut-nguyen
Thanks Joshua, I'd do exactly what Joshua said.
phyrpowr
Also, wierd as it sounds, pop the flash and use a stiffish brush to clean thoroughly underneath. I saw a Canon tech resurrect a film Rebel from the dead that way

jo7hs2
Yes, add what Steve and Jack suggested as well. Since I've never touched the backup battery since it was installed, I totally forgot it even existed!
dxphoto
Hi, thanks for all the tips... I just tried to take the other battery out and it didn't work either. I did detached everything (lens and card) I left the main battery in for a while and I can feel the back of the camera is warmer. something must went wrong.:((
PuppyDigs
Canon Service is the best and probably only place to take it. Realize the minimum service charge was $175 in 2006 (might be more now), so act accordingly. Like Nyuyen said, a new XT is only $395 ay B&H. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter

fanta
Check the warranty period. Is it 18 months only in your country?
