spider71ko
Is there an easy way to get a replacement for that little cap that covers the flash attachment on the K10D? I'm in NYC, near Adorama. Do they carry them? Thanks in advance.

By "flash attachment," do you mean the built-in flash (the flash that's an integrated part of the body of the camera, on top of the body right above the Pentax logo) or do you mean something like the Pentax 360 or 540 flash units that can be attached to the camera on the hot shoe? The word "attachment" implies the possibility of detachment and that suggests the 360/540, but they don't have anything that I'd call a "cap."

If the thing you need CAN be purchased at a store, then Adorama probably has it, so if it's easy to do, you might just bop into Adorama and ask them. Otherwise, if you've broken something either on the camera body or a detachable flash unit, perhaps the right thing to do would be to contact Pentax service.
mc2imaging
I usually take the hot shoe cover off the camera when it is about 2 minutes old and it hangs out in a pocket of my bag for years with out ever being seen...
spider71ko
William, thanks for your help. I guess the term should have been "hot shoe cover". I do the same thing Matthew. I know they are in a pocket somewhere, but it would be easier to go buy a new one than trying to find the old one.....besides, who knows what else I may find.... Thanks! norman_valentine
If it is anything like the cover on the flash socket on the K1000 all I can add is that I lost mine after I had had the camera for five years and twenty years later still had no problems but just one thing less to worry about. andrewg_ny
I think it's called Fk Hot Shoe Cover.
Appears to be out of stock currently at B&H and Adorama. Mine are rarely on the camera--I guess theoretically they protect the contacts and the shoe itself from damage but since I use the flash fairly frequently it would be yet another little piece for me to worry about. Lens caps, remote controls, and tripod adapter plates give me enough of that already. Attempting to use them would be a good way to guarantee that they would make repeated trips through the laundry machines.
jeffpolaski
Hot shoe cover can always be found on eBay. The brand name doesn't matter; the size is uniform.
hinman
Mine is already lost in the laundry machine. I am glad to see this discussion.
tripanfal
Not sure I even had one...probably still in the box.
andrew_ng7
oddly enough, I found mine the other day and put it back on. Figured since I'll be shooting some outdoor winter stuff next week, there's no harm in a little added protection from the elements.
mountainvisions
I forgot one even came with the camera...i just take it off the first time i use the hotshoe and conveniently misplace it. I'd mail you mine, but I have no clue where it is. Anyway, on all my cameras I've never had an issue so I'm hoping this isn't some sort of omen. michael_kuhne
During the long years of the PZ and ZX/MZ film models, the camera neck strap supplied by Pentax had a neat little mini pocket on each side that buttons down. Good place to stow a hot shoe cover or VF blind. Too bad nickle and dime cost cutting deprives us of some good ideas.
mountainvisions
"Good place to stow a hot shoe cover or VF blind." True...this was a good idea, and in digital you could hold a few SD cards in it!!! Actually Lowepro makes a transporter neck strap I like. A little padding, but seems to reduce camera weight a bit without the bulk of a neoprene strap. However, what I also like is the SD card case that is attached to the strap. It is removable but it assures me I will always have a few cards (assuming I remember to put them back in the case after downloading). I suppose you could put a card in there + the VF and hot shoe cover.
matthew miller
I was just thinking about this the other day. Does having that piece off affect the weather sealing?
andrew_ng7
Not much considering it just slips into the hotshoe. water and moisture can probably still get in there. I just have it on to keep the dirt off. Less to clean.
Jochen_S
I like PC socket covers on the additional "wrong" sockets for FP flash bulbs synch which some cameras offer, but I keep my hotshoes open. I believe the covers exist just for cosmetical reasons sinceI spotted the first ones on P&Ss.
