photography by a.f. smith
Hello all, Would a lens mounted in a lens board for a Crown Graphic work for a Super Graphic? I imagine it would be fine only I would not be able to use the electronic shutter release. Am I right?
thirteenthumbs
Would a lens mounted in a lens board for a Crown Graphic work for a Super Graphic?
Well, that depends on the era fo the Pacemaker lens board the lens for the Crown is mounted on.
Lens boards for Pacemaker series press cameras made from 1947 until the introduction of the Super series of cameras only have two small bumps at the top and two at the bottom of the lens board. These boards will not work in the Super Graphic series cameras.
Lens boards made for the Pacemaker and Super series cameras from around 1958 on will work in either camera. This series of lens boards have two bumps at the top and bottom of the lens board as the previous Pacemaker boards but also have two wide protrousions on each side of the lens boards as the Supers lens board locks are on the side and Pacemakers are on the top. The protrousions are 1/8 inch wide, 1/4 inch long, and 1/16 inch high.
The lens board could be modified to work with the electronic shutter release. A notch in the bottom edge of the board would have to be cut out, a catch lever added, and linkage to the shutter release fabricated then sealed to prevent light leaks. Troll
Yes, they will fit perfectly, but you may have to shim them with a layer or two of paper or cardboard to snug them down.
BrianS1664879711
Another approach, which I have tried before and it worked for me, is to put thin foam strips (about 1/8 inch thick) under the back-side edges of Pacemaker boards before mounting it on a Super Graphic. This gave a bit of pressure between the face of the board and the lens-board retaining lugs. ...
