thierry nguyen cuu - nomad
Just got the 1D MKIII delivered. Took time to have dinner with wife and kids (and the hands trembling) After dinner, gently disappeared to play around with the new gear. Seated on a 24-70, put in a 8 GIG SANDISK Extreme III. Push the shutter twice: err 99 It's friday nite here in Australia. Put the thing back in the box and returned playing with the kids (and the 5D) Is this super power code still ... acceptable? especially at a friday night? thierry nguyen cuu - nomad
Another funny thing: when I was in the menu, the ISO range was between 200 - 3200 instead of 100 - 3200 ? The firmware is somehow still at ver 1.1.0 Any idea if the ver 1.1.3 would make my friday nite ... happier? As the camera keeps bugging, I wouldn't risk to update it anyway. elliot1
Call Canon tech support - somewhere in the world, they are open.
frank_dzambic
As far as your ISO range goes, it sounds like you have highlight tone priority enabled.
thierry nguyen cuu - nomad
Frank,
That's correct that I enabled highlight tone priority :)
And still I can't have 6400 with extended ISO range enabled...

Elliot,
I got the camera shipped from a store in Sydney and they don't open on the week ends...
I think I'll have to wait till monday and try to get an exchange.
It's frustrating as I order this camera I'd use for a portrait session tomorrow.
Looks ike I'll use the old good 5D instead. elliot1
Omega, again, somewhere in the world, Canon tech support is open. It will require a long distance call but may be worth it if you want to use the camera for the weekend, as I am sure you want to do. (It is Friday more here in the eastern USA). http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ContactCanonAct Good luck!
thierry nguyen cuu - nomad
Hi again Elliot,
Thank you very much for your time and support.

Looks like I may have a theory on one of the mysterious err 99 causes:
The mirror wouldn't come come all the way back down?

I tried to gently lift the mirror, check that nothing naughty would be behind it.
I let it go from half course...
Believe it or not: No more err99 and the camera fires like crazy (in H mode).

May it be a sensor that detects that the mirror is stuck and not back to its normal "idle" position?

Anyway thank you all for your posts and support.

Happy again and a very interesting week end in perspective.
Cheers

colinsouthern
"And still I can't have 6400 with extended ISO range enabled... " There are a few "gotcha's" with the extended ISO settings - off memory, HTP kills the ability to select Hi (6400) ISO as well. Additionally, features like safety shift won't use the extended ISO ranges.
