Nikon 85mm f1.4 Loose Focal Distance Window

I just recently purchased a new Nikon 85mm f1.4 AFD lens and noticed while

attaching it to my D200 the little platic window with the focal distance

markings moves side to side slightly in it's setting. For and aft its fine. Not

a big deal since I rarely if ever use it and it's not falling out or anything

but I looked at all my other Nikon lenses I own and they're all very tight and

don't move. The lens seams to be quite sharp although just slightly soft wide

open as expected but I'm on the fence whether to exhange it or not. Has anyone

else noticed this little plastic window being loose on one or more of you

lenses; Nikon or other? Call me picky but for $1100+ the lense should be close

to perfect IMO.

The fact that this window is loose might suggest that the lens has suffered a shock, and this could contribute to the stated lack of sharpness at full aperture. I would definitely return it!

Definitely return it. Why you wanna pay more than a grand for wobbly lens? Heck I'd even return a 50mm 1.8 AF if it's wobbly. It's not like you're paying bargain price for it, but full price.

Mine was like that from the time it was brand new-- I wouldnt worry about it.

I've seen that before on the 85mm f/1.4 and the 85mm f/1.8. Probably not a big deal, but as stated, you should get what you want with a new one.

Seems pretty normal to me. I bought a 85mm f/1.4mm last week in HK and all the new copies in the shop had the same wobbling problem.

Regardless, I got mine fixed anyway by Nikon Service Centre. Fixed and cleaned, and back to me in 48 hours.

lowest price i can find for this USA lens is Amazon - $999. any other recommendations?
