jim_karthauser
Hi there I've just bought a BG-E2 for the new 40D I plan on getting in the next few weeks. Only problem is, I have noticed that one of the pins that goes inside the body of the camera at the top of the battery compartment has dropped down so has no spring action. As I don't have a body to test it in to see if it works, could anyone confirm whether there is supposed to be a 'dropped pin'? The person I bought it off seems to think that it works, but as I don't have the body then I want to make sure that the pin should be like that. I've attached a photo of the pins so that you can see what I mean. It's the pin right at the front of the shot. There's one row of six pins, and then the front row hasfive, with one dropped. Thanks in advance. This was the site that i bought it from http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? steve_crist
That's a defective pin. My BG-E2 has all 11 pins the same length.
jim_karthauser
Thanks for the response. I've just spent the best part of an hour fixing it, it turned out to be a pin that had just got pushed in too far and got stuck. I wouldn't recommend anyone else dismantling that part though, I hope I never have to again. 11 tiny pins, each with a spring to align. Lost them down the side of the desk, in the carpet, stuck in the keys on the keyboard, everywhere. Finally found them all though and now they're all back in place and its all great. Just need to try it out for real when I get my 40D. Can't wait :) Cheers.
JDMvW
Good luck, and it's good to know that this can happen. Thanks
mendel_leisk
Just a grumble: is this the extension grip for the body, with the extra battery compartment, portrait shutter buttons, etcetera? Maybe worth mentioning, in addition to the esoteric part number.
jim_karthauser
Mendel- I'm not sure what you mean by your post. Please elaborate?

alan_myers
"What is a BG E2?" Yes, it's the Battery Grip to fit 20D, 30D and 40D. The "New" one offered with 40D (and backward compatible to the other cameras) is BG-E2N. The original one will also work on the 40D, just seems to lack a little seal on the battery compartment, in comparison to the new one. Personally I didn't find the question at all esoteric. The part number is very specific, so I knew immediately what item Jim was asking about. I wish more people would reference specific items accurately, in this manner. But, then again, anyone who didn't know what it was might have to either look at Canon's or one of the retailers' websites, or in a catalog, or in the back pages of just about any photo magazine, to find out. It sounds as if Jim bought a used BG-E2, instead of paying the extra for the "N" (which, IMHO, might actually be worth the added cost, if it had an AF On button.) mendel_leisk
I admitted at the outset I was grumbling. I know: if you have to ask, you're in the wrong place ;) So, what does everone think, should I be using my ET-86?
don_wilkie
" <i>So, what does everone think, should I be using my ET-86?</i> "<br><br> Yes, it will offer more protection for the front element of your lens than just a UV filter would.
