john_.
I have done a few weddings here and there, I am just start off in the business, and was recently asked by a venue if I had proof of insurance. I had never heard of it, yet when I asked a good DJ friend of mine, he said it was pretty commonplace... Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for? I am just starting out and only have a few gigs for the year...What should I do? any and all help would be greatly appreciated...
austinphoto
John: I just bought the Photo.net insurance. very cheap for the year and I am covered, as well as an assistant. Type insurance in the search. $325 per year for me and an assistant.
jillmyers
I use Hill & Usher for my liability insurance and Erie for my equipment (got a deal from them as my car and homeowners are through them too.) Hill & Usher can cover your equipment as well...check out their package deal on their website. stephen dohring
Your venues will want general liability. You can pay around $150.00 a year with a PPA membership or by advertising with Wedj.com. You can pay more and cover your gear also. I think a PPA membership is the way to go you can get many more benefits like credit card transactions, legal help etc.
frolickingbits
Liability insurance is good-the venue wants to make sure that your behind is covered if you set their place on fire, or knock a light stand over on a guest or something like that. I pay $460 a year through a local company for $1 million in liability, and $30k equipment. The premiums for the equipment insurance are actually much more than for the liability. paul_sokal___dallas__tx
I use Hill and Usher. No problems.
robbie_caswell
I think I paid about $700 for Hill and Usher. Now I'll have to look into these other cheaper options.
gary van schaick
Hill and Usher are great, the complete package covers everything for about $700.00 including general liability, equipment cover and if you screw up something. i.e. you forget to take the lens cap off at a critical time and miss the most important shot of the evening
