linda guerra
Hi PNet Friends,I would like to get some feedback on the latest work I have done. I had not ever used Flickr before and decided that this is the easiest way to post pics for critique. I need to look into getting a pro account. Anyway thanks for looking and for C&C. www.flickr.com/photos/13941910@N02/1714438885/in/photostream Best,Linda

steve_ashton1
Linda, I to love the shots and agree with Dave about the more traditional Kissing shots. Nice work... Have a go with a reflector and just pop a bit of light into those dark areas and you have a good range of shots.. elisha_c.
Hi Linda,

These photos are a good start, but I would practice using flash outdoors to spice up your lighting and bring detail out in the very blown out sky. Also, you may want to invest in a photo editor like lightroom (for large bulk processing) or photoshop for fine tuning, etc.

I played around in PS with one of your images. I did some curves and added lens flare. The lens flare might have been a bit overboard, but you can see how a little image post processing can really help.

savagesax
Sorry, but the photos seem a bit flat as far as lighting goes. Your ideas are nice and creative, but perhaps take a lighting class or work with a pro and learn basic and advanced lighting. When the lady is a bit over weight put her behind not in front. This will take off weight and be extremely flattering. If I sound harsh I'm only trying see you jump into the big leagues as a gifted pro.
cenelsonfoto
Elisha, that's really bad to my eyes. I would also think it wise to ask if you can modify someone's image before doing so and posting in response to their thread.
linda guerra
I already posted a response but somehow it didn't post. I will try to recreate what I said. Thanks Bob, I agree that I need tutoring (mentoring) in lighting. Also, thanks to those who liked my shots. I didn't think they were bad, but I did think they needed some "pop". I will continue to explore lighting. I didn't get any critique on the family pics with the babies. Please comment on them too. They are later than the others and I had read up on some different stuff to do with them and want to know what you all think. Thank you very much for your input. Now I shall go and help somebody else, that's the way we all learn! :o) Best,Linda
johnmottershaw
That modification by Elisha is absolutely terrible! It's far too contrasty. Instead, just try auto levels in Photoshop, which takes that particular shot to a much more acceptable level and then perhaps warm it up a bit. This should give you a better visual reference for the other shots.
frolickingbits
I'm not sure if it's your lens, or you, but none of your shots look sharp. I don't think it's motion blur, rather everything looks slightly out of focus. This could be caused by a junky, or miscalibrated lens, or not knowing how to focus properly. I also agree that some fill flash, and learning how to see the natural light and use it to your advantage would help a lot. Your posing, and capturing of character is quite good, and that's often the hardest thing to do, so I think there is hope for you.
jeremy_nako
Hi Linda My view is.. You've captured the mood which is the most important bit. Some of your photos have excellent composition, others are a little more staid. I would look at becoming more proficient in Photoshop or similar. Until such time as you can get the photos exactly as you'd like them in the camera, post editing will help you achieve better end photos.
