kingsley1
I know this is a trivial question but it is driving me nuts. I have just bought a camera which has the inscription FM2/T etched onto the frontside of the top plate and a letter "T" before the serial number at the back. Both the top plate and the bottom plate are titanium. The camera is basically a FM2n except for the titanium plates. This must be the FM2/T as the badge says so. However, I find some articles which talk about the FM2n/T as if it is different from the FM2/T. I need to put this to rest :). Are they the same camera ? The FM2n/T does not refer to the titanium shutter version of the FM2n, does it ? Those articles do not seem to mean that.
mdunker
It appears as though you have the titanium version which is designated as you describe. The camera is functionally the same as the "regular" version of the FM2N. The "T" designation refers to the titanium construction of the top and bottom plates. The older titanium shutter is not related to the "T" designation. At some point during production the shutter was changed from the honeycomb titanium version to an aluminum shutter similar to other models in the nikon lineup. Michael R Freeman
All FM2/T models are an FM2N, with titanium top and bottom plates. So any reference you find to FM2/T or FM2n/T refer to the same camera. The official Nikon designation was FM2/T (no N), and the serial number was preceded by a 'T' (e.g. T9004988). AFAIK, all the FM2/T have the aluminum bladed shutter (developed for the N8008). http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm2t/index.htm
rjacksonphoto
Check the flash sync speed on the shutter speed dial (the number in red). If 200, it is an FM2. If 250, it is an FM2n.
Michael R Freeman
The FM2 (1/200 sync, 1982-84) had been discontinued for nearly 9 years when the FM2/T was introduced (1993).
john_newell2
It's as Michael says. The FM2/T has all the FM2n features.
kingsley1
So,the FM2/T and the FM2n/T actually refers to the same camera. I have just checked my shutter speed dial and the sync speed is 1/250. It is correct then. Thanks, guys.
