routine maintenance?

Following up Eric's post about Pentax repair I was wondering if routine

"preventative" maintenance is recommended for Pentax cameras and lenses. I own

a K1000, P3, ZX-30, and K100D and a handful of lenses - none of them are in need

of repair, but should/can they be tuned up?

There is really nothing to "tune-up" inside ZX-30 or K100D as the majority of the gear trains are plastic. They either work or break. Just use them till they give in then the broken plastic part would be replaced. The mirror box mechanisms of P3 are metal and may jam like M series cameras when the grease is gone. By then a CLA will do. K1000 has a mechanial shutter which requires regular serivce to keep the timing accurate if you are shooting slides (like the MX). But if you don't use it often, just save the cash because the timing mechanism will be off again by itself. That's the nature of fully mechnaical cameras.
