joel_kantrowitz
Is the image stabilization worth the extra $75? Should other P&S cameras also be in the running here (Fuji 31J)?
sam_thompson2
You also get a wider lens with the SD800, 28 vs 35.
bill_tuthill
IS is more worthwhile in Canon models than in Fujifilm models, because Fuji sensors go up to ISO 800-1600 with minimal noise. The Fuji F31 lacks a viewfinder, unlike models you list in the title. Note that the SD800is will be replaced soon by the SD870is, which sadly lacks viewfinder, so buy soon if that's your choice. Fuji now makes a wide angle, the F480, cheap.

davek57
The SD800 has a viewfinder and feels more substantial in the hand than the SD1000. I've owned the SD600 (predecessor of the SD1000) and the SD800, and prefer the overall feature set of the latter. Every compact digital camera on earth seems to offer the boring 35-105mm focal range, but 28mm and image stabilization is a hard combination to find, unless you're willing to look at Panasonic's FX30 (no viewfinder, inconsistent noise issues). Spend the extra $$ on the SD800is. I don't regret it, you won't either!
