robbie_robertson
Before I lay out cash for this Sigma lense, can anyone provide (please, only from specific experience with this lense) input? I do a lot of wildlife photography from my back deck. Currently using The Nikkor VR 70-300mm with a Tamron 2X teleconverter on my D40X, and that setup is proving itself to be a poor man's very cumbersome long lense, e.g. Autofocus doesn't work reliably because the minimum aperture exceeds F4. Oh well, chalk it up to being cheap and ignorant. I hear some negatives about the Sigma lense: Autofocus being slow in extreme zoom, and photos having a soft look at that range too, fragile, and lousy customer service in the event it's needed. Your knowledgeable input would be appriecated. Thx, RR

robbie_robertson
Whoops! Looks like it was already a well-hashed subject. Thanks Shun. RR
ShunCheung
Robbie, perhaps 90% of the subjects here have already been discussed at least a few times, so it is not a big deal. I seem to recall that this very topic has been discussed at least 3 to 5 times in the last year or two, but you need to do some searching yourself. Unfortunately, photo.net's search capability can, let's put it this way, use a lot of improvement.
Jerry_
Or try to find a used 1000mm f11 Reflex-Nikkor lens. It has (probably) better glass than the Sigma zoon, and with a decent tripod, the lens works.<div></div>
