kip_peterson
I guess I'm posting a lot lately as a newbie to the Contax 645 system..sorry! I just received a used 35mm f/3.5 Distagon lens. It is a work of art, but the focus ring does not feel nearly as buttery smooth as the 80mm Planar standard lens. It seems to perform as expected in autofocus mode with a quick, accurate response, but when I manually focus, it just seems a little "crunchy" feeling when turning the focus ring compared to the 80mm. Is this a common experience with other owners or should I suspect something is wrong? Thanks--

kip_peterson
OK, Stan--which is it: yes to it being a common experience or yes to it being a problem? :-)
wolf_rainer_schmalfuss
Hi Kip, please don't forget, that the Contax 645 lenses, with one exception, have a electric motor drive build in for the AF function. CheersWolf
michael_dimarzio
No, it's not as buttery, more like "margariney". Ok, sorry for the bad joke. You are right in your feel of the lens. My guess that it's possibly due to the same motor with different gears. Enjoy it, it's a nice lense. I can't believe how expensive they are to buy, used ones are more then new were.
