TC-16A and new Nikons?

Apologies in advance if this has been posted, but I have searched and can't find

the answer. Will the TC-16A autofocus with either the Nikon D3 or D300?

Probably, but why? The optics are substandard (particularly at the edges), you can't use it on AF lenses, the lenses you do use it on will no longer focus to infinity.

Your best hope would be a future replacement for the d2xs {maybe a d3x}, although i would guess that compatability with this tc will eventually be phased out completely, which is a pity for those of us with high quality MF lenses, and who value the option of semi-af.

 

'If' this tc 'did' af with the D3, the 'relatively' poor edge quality may be a drawback with the d3's full frame sensor, although on a dx format body the IQ is actually extremely good {better than my nikon tc-14}.

 

Of course this tc CAN allow focus to infinity, AND be used with AF lenses {although the AF function will be peformed by the tc, and not the prime lens}.

A small caveat to the above {which you may be aware of anyway},

 

This particular tc only functions 'fully' {AF, metering etc} on a limited number of digital bodies {although it can be used as a purely manual tc on a number of other bodies}.

My TC-16A works fine on my F6 and D2X. Doesn't work on my D200.

 

No one really knows but I would guess that it will work on the D3 and maybe D300 since their AF modules seem almost the same unlike the very different D2X and D200 AF modules.

 

My TC-16A focuses at infinity just fine with my 300mm f2.8 AI lens. If yours doesn't then it sounds broken. I've got AF TC's for AF lenses but the TC-16A is great for old cheap AI lenses.

Dunno, I know there's a warning specifically for my F100 to NOT use the TC16A with it.
