Epson 4490 Photo malfunction?

This happens to me about ever 4th or 5th picture, that there is this rainbow

digitized blur across my negatives, usually only with medium format. Am I doing

something wrong, or is it my scanner's fault. I will try to attach a picture.<div></div>

You've covered the scanner's self-calibration sensors (most likely with film extending past the scanning window of the holder.) These are ballpoint pen tip sized holes along the top short edge of the scanner, the side away from the front panel buttons.

 

Just cut your film shorter or flip it around so that it hangs down the front rather than the back.
