lindabekebrede
Hi, has anyone experienced the following problem and knows a solution? i just bought a new lens: Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VR and I put the REAR lens cap back on. Now i wanted to shoot for the first time with it and can't get it off.
Matthew Brennan
Hi Linda, I don't mean to ask a silly question but are you trying to turn it anti-clockwise or clockwise? The rear lens caps are anti-clockwise - i have to remind myself on occasion....
steve_levine
Not to be facetious: have someone stronger than you turn it. The little bayonet tabs can cause a tight fit with certain lenses. I have actually suffered the opposite quite commonly. Some times a certain cap/lens combo won't interlock, and the cap stays loose.
Matthew Brennan
Sorry Linda - what a fool I am- they come off with a clockwise twist........no wonder I struggle with them on occasion......I'm a left hander that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Steve is correct, I had a 70-300 D lens with a super tight fitting rear cap combo - didn't matter which cap i used they all made for a tight fit to get them flush to the lug marks on the lens. theodore_papageorgiou
I think there are some rear lens caps, that are not original, so they do not fit exactly.(I have seen some of them). Theodore.
lindabekebrede
tried clockwise, anti-clockwise. nothing works. bought the lens from camerasdirect.com.au very frustrating for such an expensive (2.200 ausdollars) lens and i'm going on holiday so don't wanna send it back because can't use it then.... Dieter Schaefer
I have noticed that on some newer lenses the cap needs to be put on one way, there is even an alignment dot on it.
scottconners
On my Sigma 70-200, the rear lens cap has a specific orientation - if it's not put on properly rotated, one of the taps grabs at the electrical contact beads on the lens and it can hang up just like you described. I haven't had the problem with Nikon back caps, only off-brand - is it the original cap? If it isn't and the problem recurs, you might look into buying a Nikon branded cap. mark newcombe www.mcnphoto
I have issues with sigma caps aswell they are horrible, if using off brand lens I would also recommend getting nikon caps for them.

cynthia_tarvin
I've got the same problem. My new Nikon 55-200 mm simply is like it's glued on. Did anyone ever figure out the solution to this problem?
