flaviosganzerla
I'm looking for a place that sells this scanner to do an upgrade from my Minolta IV. Does someone know if it is still possible to buy this scanner new from some internet shop or store? Google returned nothing. Before looking for a used one, I need to answer this question. Thanks for any help!
godfrey
It's been out of production quite a while now. Godfrey
flaviosganzerla
I know this Godfrey, that's why I'm asking. ;)
john_gleason1
Mr. Google produces several possibilities, almost instantly, with the target "Minolta 5400 II ".
john_gleason1
And there's at least one up on that big auction site, if you're willing to accept "like new".
jtk
IMO it's DOWNGRADE from your IV: Ridiculous engineering, cheapest plastic mechanicals (weighs half of Nikon V), bad film holder. Amazon reported being swamped with returns. I had two, the first of which made a few great scans before it died (equaled my Nikon's scans). The replacement never even functioned. Even if it wasn't so overtly junk it wouldn't rival the Nikon V, which has far better strip film transport, better focus, and more advanced Ice (a Nikon replaced my replacement Minolta, on Amazon's firm advice). flaviosganzerla
I have some experience with Nikon V but images I`ve seen from 5400 seemed even better. I really lost some time looking all over internet to find one new but no store had it in stock, so I think it is not being sold, right? Ebay is the last alternative, maybe I'm going with Nikon V. Still thinking... Thanks!
robert_k1
Before making a decision, check the following links. Some Nikon users reported flares in their scans, but no Minolta users had reported this problem. I own many Nikon equipment, and would have gotten a Nikon scanner if not for the flares. http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00IGyN http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=001A4q http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=004EWS http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00A2Sh http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00CTcF http://www.vad1.com/photo/dirty-scanner/ http://www.pearsonimaging.com/ls5000cleaning.html This member apparently was aware of the flares: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00H558 Here's what he ended up with after buying a Nikon: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00HCnM
kmcgrew
No matter what scanner you get, seriously consider getting SilverFast Ai software. It's well worth it! It made my Epson 2450 out to be like a new scanner.
flaviosganzerla
Thanks guys! I'm kind of aware of this problem with Nikon V. The same goes to Minolta 5400 focus and death problems but I think there is no other alternative to them. Still thinking, by the way.
