john.mathieson
Hi I am new to HDR using Photomatix. I mostly use a tripod, 5 FPS or Mirror lockup, and usually use Aperture mode around f8 - with 5 or 7 exposures 1 eV apart. I am enjoying learning to use the software, and am somewhat pleased with some of the images I am getting. QUESTION - If I leave my setting on Auto WB, how much does it actually change in images bracketed that way? Or does it change at all? I am using a Nikon D200 - the Auto WB on the D200 seems to work extremely well in many situations. I could do a custom WB with an Expodisc, or use one of the fixed settings - although, in my limited experience, the Auto or Custom WB seems to me to give better results than any of the other presets in most situations. Wondering if it would make any difference Auto vs Custom? Will the WB change or stay the same through a series of bracketed images? Is there any difference in how the WB is done if I use 5FPS vs Mirror Lockup? Thanks John
roger_smith4
This sounds like a good opportunity to do a test and report your findings. I usually shoot on daylight or custom so I can't help you.
jetmarc
Hi John, On my D70 the (auto) white-balance can change throughout the bracket. Other parameters such as focus can change, too. Your best bet is to shoot in RAW mode (NEF), and use Nikon Capture to apply the same white-balance settings to all exposures.
