Thanks Dave - I've downloaded & installed it on my 1D3, and all looks fine so far.

 

By the way - Canon say to use a card up to 2GB - I used a newly formatter 8GB, and it worked just fine.

It was interesting that Rob Galbraith was asked not to publish photos from his camera with the upgraded firmware, and has agreed to a "roadmap" with Canon as to the path they're going to pursue to investigate the issue further. (from www.robgalbraith.com)
