Jochen_S
The previous thread about the 50mm f1.4 (which I'm currently getting used to) made me curious. Which lenses perform rather sharp, let's say good enough for 6MP at which apertures? I don't know what might be how desireable, but at least the 50mm f1.4 wide open look seems a bit hard to judge on the LCD although it appears quite pleasant later on screen, so I'm quite curious what might be in store. - TIA
roger_smith4
This is on an 8MP Canon body but the same should apply. The Tamron 17-50 is a quite sharp zoom lens and I compared it to the Pentax 28 f2.8 K-Mount (Manual) and the 50mm 1.4 (M42): http://www.jingai.com/phototests/Pentax%2028mm%20vs%20tamron.html

jason_greenberg_motamedi
Both the FA35/2 and the FA31/1.8 are sharp open wide, the 31mm is a bit sharper, but not enough to matter at 6mp, or probably even at 10. I have a few older Pentax lenses which are also sharp open wide, most notibly a K85/1.8 which is brilliantly sharp at f1.8.

jason_greenberg_motamedi
Oh yes, Daniel's post reminds me that the FA50/2.8 Macro is probably the sharpest lens I have ever used--at any fstop. I have no experience with the 100mm macro or any of the recent (DFA) issues.
franka t.l.
Well if its Pentax and wide open, then my experience is that the SMC-FA or SMC-A 200/4.0 Macro probably rank champion but then its 4.0 even at wide open. @nd place goes to the SMC-A* 135/1.8 but then you got practically zero DOF. Not a problem if you are shooting something a bit distance away though
peter
One that I am familiar with is the SMC 200mm f4 in M42 mount. I am simply amazed at this lenses resolution power wide open or stopped down.
dogbert
The K 35/3.5 and the M 35/3.5 are both very sharp wide open, and across the frame.

from darkness
Hello, I have an old Super Takumar (M42) - 50mm f/4, macro 1:1. At f4 (not very bright)it is the sharpest lens I have.
s.l.
I have that same lens (50/4 Macro Takumar). It's excellent but a little slow. To the OP: the 105/2.8 Super-Takumar takes gorgeous, pin-sharp portraits with wonderful bokeh. Far and away my favourite lens.
