Nikon F3HP LCD Light Weirdness

I recently got a late serial numbered Nikon F3Hp in very nice condition. When

activating its LCD light by pressing the red button on the side below the

prism, the light comes on but all the numbers disappear and nothing is

displayed in the LCD! I know the LCD light feature is notorious for being next

to useless, but what's happening with mine seems extreme. In an otherwise well

designed camera, I wonder why the F3 LCD light is so problematic?

MAybe check the batterys?

 

Other then that I have no idea.

 

I have two F3's that I bought new in the early 80's I dont think I have ever used the lights in them. One of them the light works and in the other it does not.

I remember having the same problem on my F3HP and I believe replacing the batteries corrected it. The finder light is a little on the rinky dink side with that tiny red button.

Also check the battery contacts, brush them off with with a pencil eraser.

That is one of the good news , bad news about the F3. The battery lasts so long you forget when you bought it.
