where to take film for cross processing

Recommended Posts

I just shot a roll of color slide film and took it to Walgreens to have it

cross processed. I talked to a few of people before doing this about cross

processing, and 2 people said that Walgreens does just fine with it, while the

last person I talked to said that he has had multiple bad experiences with

Walgreens and xpro. I've always had success with Walgreens, and decided to

take the chance. The lady working the film counter said that she would run it

like regular color print film, but she said that all I'm going to get is blank

film because they use "special" chemicals. I asked her if it was C41 and she

said yes, but that it is "special C41" and therefore I will get nothing out of

this. She said she's never done it before, so I thought maybe she just doesn't

know about it, but as I wait for my pictures, I'm getting more and more

nervous.

Does anyone have any experience with taking color slide film to Walgreens for

cross processing? If it goes through as though it were regular color print

film, I should get the exciting images I'm expecting, right? Do they really

use "special" chemicals?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

A while back I asked my local Costco 1-hr photo person if they would be willing to process bulk-loaded C-41 - they said it wouldn't be a problem, I just had to tell them it's C-41 (the local Wal-Marts and drug store processors I've asked won't do it, it has to be a factory cassette with "c-41" somewhere on it).

So, they seem flexible, so one day I might just try bringing in normal slide film to see if they'll cross-process it for me - or just bulk-load some and not tell them it's slide :)

Try and find somewhere that does not use a Fuji lab, especially if trying to cross process Fuji slide films. Such films are often impossible to scan using Fuji lab scanners as the film base is too colourless for the scanner to detect. The only way that such films can them be scanned and printed is using the manual carrier and printing masks which not all labs have and take much longer.
