Recommended labs for film 35 mm to 8x10 and prints

I know some of the digital printers for fine art (Nash Editions, etc) in the Los Angeles area, but now that

I am happily returning to film for my fine art work, can anyone recommend a lab with truly personal

attention? I want my negs to be processed safely and properly, and my prints to be archival quality and

any darkroom work to be top notch.

speciality color services in santa barbara does awesome b/w in the darkroom, as well as

chromes and digital services. i think they do the film processing for A and I or someone as

the run back and forth between LA and SB. they also have a rental darkroom so you can do

it yourself. b/w negs are processed in an color film machine, cleaned out obviously, but

since color is so time critical to some chemicals, you gain that precision. you want another

5 seconds added to your development bath, easily done.

 

the three owners are all photographers and work alot with Brooks Institute students.
