RB67 Pro SD - why no mention of the P adapter & Press backs sytem?

I have a pretty large Mamiya Universal Press system, and I'm aware that the P

adapter permits the mounting of all the Universal back-end stuff onto the old

RB67: the Polaroid back goes directly onto the P adapter, and the rollfilm backs

and magnifying hoods etc. go on via the M adapter and then the P adapter. I have

all this stuff. So I am thinking of picking up an RB67 body to have a

cross-compatible system. I'd prefer the Pro SD as it has some refinements over

the previous models - including apparently an enlarged body cavity to illuminate

up to 6x8 cm at the rear.

But the question is this. I have here before me Bob Shell's Mamiya Systems book.

There are two system charts for the RB67 - for the Pro S and Pro SD. The Pro S

chart shows the P adapter and all the Press/Polaroid stuff that can go onto it.

The Pro SD chart has no mention of the P adapter or the Press attachments. I

downloaded the Pro SD manual from Mamiya: same story; no mention of the P

adapter or Press attachments. Why? Did something change at the rear of the Pro

SD that made it incompatible with the P adapter? Was there a change in the

mounting mechanism or in the registration distance? Or perhaps, was it the case

that the Universal Press had been discontinued before the Pro SD was launched,

and they did not want to refer to items which were no longer available new?

Can anyone say _for certain_ that the P adapter is - or is not - compatible with

the Pro SD?

Thanks!

I can't tell you about the P adapter, however the only difference for the 6x8 capability is the light baffle at the rear, Mamiya still stocked the upgraded part (labeled 6x8, If I recall correctly) a year or so ago, my guess is that they still do. unless you get an SD really cheap, I'd go for the ProS personally.
