jack_palmer
I just posted this question but it disappeared. I just purchased a used but mint 90mm Elmarit to use with my .85 MP. The built in hood is loose, it wobbles , what I'd like to know is if this is normal and if not is there a way to tighten it up a bit so that it slides smoothly?? alastair_anderson
Built in hood on an elmarit? That's news to me. Must be a later version than mine. Are you sure!?
james mitchell dc
The current version has a built-in hood. And no, mine does not wobble. This shouldn't happen.
james mitchell dc
I don't know how to tighten it and don't have the lens here at work, so I can't look at it right now, but I'm sure that someone else will know more. Also, your original thread is right below this one.
35mmdelux
I have a chrome Elmarit-M current. Hood does not wobble. The first one I owned (black) didn't wobble either.
frederick_muller
I hate all these built in hoods. I don't bother extending the ones on my 90mm Elmarit M and 50mm Lux. Just use a screw-in hood.
jack_palmer
I called Leica NJ and was told it's a felt ring around the inside of the hood that keeps the proper tension and resistance when extending the hood and it needs to be replaced. So off it goes for a minor repair.
ronald_moravec1
Replace the felt as Palmer says. you may get it off yourself if there is a ring at the end of the shade or you unscrew the bezel around the lens. Start with a home made wooden spanner and progress to one with tape on the blades if necessary. Did the bezel thing with my 135 2.8. No big deal. If you can`t get it easily, send it off or put a wide rubber band behind it.
rjm photo
I kinda like the built in hoods on the 90mm Elmarit-M and 50mm Summilux, sure makes for two less accessories to carry and more room in the bag for say an additional 46mm filter or two.
