Wide options for S2A

I am expecting a beautiful S2A in the mail soon. It is coming with the 75 and

200mm Nikkors but no wide. I have done a lot of digging and have found a lot of

references, many of them of opposite opinions. I would find it very helpful to

have a summary of all the 50mm and wider choices and the specs and pros and cons

of each including including today's values.

The other issue is I haven't found a single wide for sale scouring the usual

internet places and making calls to dealers as well.

I am aware of two 50mm Nikkors, a 2.8 and a 3.5. The 2.8 is newer, has it been

agreed it is better than the 3.5?

I think there is a 45, Komura or Zenzanon, I'm not sure.

For the 40 a Nikkor and ??

Any and all comments would be appreciated.

Hudson

I believe this is correct: Both Zenzanon and Nikkor made 40mm/f4, and

50mm/f2.8. Nikkor also made a 50mm/f3.5 that was also labeled 5cm.

I have no experience with any of these, only the 80, 100, and 150mm

Zenzanons which I like. The 100 is my keep on the camera lens. My

memory is that the wide lens usually command at least $100. btw- don't be afraid of the cocking noise and shutter slap. Jim

Thanks Jim - Good news here as I just received a nice original manual for the S2A. The camera was supposedly purchased in the early 70's so likely the manual was a fairly late version but it is not dated.

Here is the lens list it contains:

Nikkor 40mm f3.5 90mm filter

Nikkor 50mm F3.5 82mm filter

Nikkor 75mm f2.5 67mm filter

Zenzanon 100mm f2.8 98mm filter

Zenzanon 150mm f3.5 67mm filter

Nikkor 200mm f4 67mm filter

Nikkor 400mm f4.5 122mm filter

Nikkor 600mm f5.6 122mm filter

Now I am wondering about the Nikkor 50mm f2.8 I have seen mentioned. Are we sure it is for the classic Bronicas and not a SQ or newer? It seems somewhat unlikely they would reinvent the 50MM just to go to f2.8.

Also what about the Komura options? Was that the only 45mm? It would be nice to see a list of the Komuras.

Any comments from any users of these lenses would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wim that would be perfect as the 75 and 200 I have coming are both 67mm and there is an original Bronica filter included. I wonder why some of the Zenzanon optics wern't mentioned in the manual. It would be nice to have a complete list of the Zenzanon options.

On the S2A would 50mm be the same as 28mm in 35mm and 40mm equal to 24mm?

For the same field of view, say for example 28mm equivalent in 35MM or 66 is there a difference in the look, depth or perspective between the formats?

It would likely be easier to find, buy and carry a 50mm than a 40mm, especially the one you mentioned.

I could live with a 24mm equivalent or 28mm if I had to. I am wondering, to get the wide look in 66 one does not have to have as wide a lens, or is it the opposite or the same?

I believe you lose some depth of field with the 66over 35mm correct?

Nice shot, I see what you mean about square and wide in that shot.

Here is a good focal length equivalence reference:

http://www.photo.net/equipment/medium-format/focal-length-conversion

I received another Bronica S2A manual and it listed two additional lenses to the above list.

Nikkor 40mm f4 90mm filter f3.5 vs f4? Are they very different?

Zenzanon 55mm f4 67mm filter

Also you mentioned the Zenzanon 50mm f2.8 which I haven't seen listed anywhere for the S2A so the plot thickens.

With regard to the 50mm lens

"Now I am wondering about the Nikkor 50mm f2.8 I have seen mentioned. Are we sure it is for the classic Bronicas and not a SQ or newer? It seems somewhat unlikely they would reinvent the 50MM just to go to f2.8. "

I can confirm it does exist for the classic Bronica cameras, I have one. They look a lot newer and swankier than the older lenses and have a multi coating on them.
