Reduced clarity with Apo Ext 2x

Hi all,

 

I recently purchased an Apo Elmarit R 2x ROM and having attached it to my Apo

Elmarit 180/2.8 ROM (set at f/2.8) found that both clarity and ease of focusing

were reduced fairly dramatically. The lower half of the inner focusing circle

on my R6.2 also is showing up dark/black rather than the normal clear view.

 

Can anyone enlighten me as to what is going on/what I may be doing incorrectly?

The viewscreen's focussing aids aren't designed for smaller apertures. With an f/2.8 lens and

a 2x extender the effective maximum aperture is 2.8 * 2, or f/5.6. Try using a plain matte or

matte with grid viewscreen, or focus using the plain matte region of your standard

viewscreen.

Doug is correct, Graeme. I hated the standard focusing screen that came with my R8, so I bought the plain screen that allows me to focus throughout all of its parameters and it is a godsend with all of my R lenses!
