dakotah_jackson
Have read some on this lens and seen some ads. Know nothing more than that. Itseems to be a nice match for a 30D for some indoor sports photography. Anyone have experience with it as far as quality, autofocus speed and capabilityin gyms and overall quality compared to Canon EF lenses?
mark u
If you are going to be photographing in gyms I would strongly recommend you consider f/2 or faster primes - you will need every ounce of light gathering capability to get fast enough shutter speeds to freeze motion. Also, if you have good enough access to make the shots worthwhile (i.e. not shooting from the bleachers), you are not likely to need as long focal lengths. None of this is criticism of the Sigma 50-150 - it just isn't the ideal tool for the job. I suggest you look for threads in the Sports forum that cover the particular sports you are interested in for more advice: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a?topic_id=2081&category=uncategorized
bill_tuthill
Dakotah, did you see Photozone.de's review of the Sigma 50-150/2.8? Looks like an excellent lens, if you get a good sample. I disagree with Mark U. You've got a 30D for crying out loud, it is great at high ISO. I would much rather have the zoom for more control over framing.
