paul_ingram
Been lurking reading about Mark III orders, waits and reviews. Mentioned this at Mother's Day dinner. Today mom and dad came by with a check for... let's just say enough for current listed price (they support my volunteer photo efforts at the high school). My small local camera store just said via email that "he has one for $4499" having already told me he would sell two at not much if any markup. Do I wait for more online reviews and comments and shake-down or do I snap this one up?
paul_ingram
Update: Okay, in local store around June 15. Sorry.
jon_austin
Sounds like the hole is in Mommy's & Daddy's pockets. Since it's not your money, why would you wait?
martyn
There are bound to be teething problems with the first batch of mk3's. I would hang of for 5-6 months, wait to get a 'fully consumer tested version'

PuppyDigs
Get a personal trainer and start lifting weights now! Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
awindsor
I don't think there have been any major upgrades to any of the Canon DSLR cameras after they have been released (they have recalled the grips and the batteries but not the cameras). The worst incident I recall with a camera was the bug in the 20D firmware 1.0.4. If you performed an upgrade with a lens attached you could lock the camera up and have to send it to Canon for service. The instructions said to remove the lens and I presume that was the way the tested it. If you need the 1DIII for any reason then buy it.
m_barbu1
I agree with Alistair, and would like to add that you should make sure you couldn't make do with less of a body (the EOS 1D Mark II N, for instance). If you can, the difference may be enough for a really nice lens or two.
eric_lawson1
They do those adjustment upgrades silently. Version 1.0.0.0 of anything has some little glitches. there is a tremendous amount of wisdom in holding off for at least the second batch because you can bet there will be some minor "hopefully" tweaking going on behind the scenes after the first batch is out. greg_moss2
Mine is fine so far. Buy one if you need it's feature set. BTW: I've had "first batch" D-30 (not 30D), 10D & 1D MkII. All have been great. May it's the second batch that has all the issues ;-)
melinda_lerner
greg how did you manage to get hold of one. everywhere is telling me that they haven't shipped yet.
mostly sports
If you shoot high school sports, you should love this camera. The ten frames a second is close to making movies. They are shipping now, but coming in small quantities. If you're not a sports shooter, you might do better with a 5D.
