Metering in Canon EOS 400D

Hi,

I just bought myself a Canon EOS 400D. While it's a lot more fun than my Canon

EOS Rebel Xsn, and I've got some pretty good results, I'm a little confused

about it's meter.

When I use Manual (M) mode, the meter works fine and I over/underexpose and

the meter indicator shows likewise. However, when I se the meter to 'Av'

or 'Tv' mode, the meter indicator points at a stop under (to the left of) the

center '0' when focus is achieved. My Canon EOS rebel X used to indicate

the 'correct' meter reading i.e the meter indicator pointing at '0' when focus

was achieved.

Is this normal for the 400D or does it look like there's a bit of a problem

with my camera's meter?

I wish I could post a snapshot but hope the description will help !

Thanks.

You have set exposure compensation to -1 stop. I believe the 400D has the same handling as the 300D where you hold the Av+/- button pressed and use the wheel to set the desired setting (in Av or Tv mode or course). If this doesn't work, look in you manual for the term exposure compensation.
