tony_black1
I shoot with contax g2 and i found either kodak portra 400nc, vc and fuji pro400h too much contrast. i m looking for a low contrast film so that i dont loose too much detail. contax g2 lenses have too much contrast. can you guys suggest me the least contrast color negative and positive film in 100asa 400asa and 800asa. thanks. ronald_moravec1
Fuji Astia and Fuji 160s or Portra NC.
tony_black1
what about in 400asa and 800asa?
bill_tuthill
Portra 800 is the lowest contrast high-speed film still available. Agfa Optima 400 was lower contrast then Portra 400NC, but Agfa met their demise. I agree that Fuji 400H is not low contrast, and I find old 400NC (it has been updated, you know) only slightly lower. Sorry I have no information about new 400NC. You'll have to use 160 speed film instead, either Portra 160NC or Pro 160S, I believe.
ben_hutcherson
Try EPR(Ektachrome 64) or EPN(Extachrome 100) for a low-contrast slide film. They're about as low contrast as you can get in a slide film. Although I've never used it, I understand that E200 is also supposed to be really low contrast when shot at 200 and developed normally.
donnie_strickland
Another vote for EPR.
steve_levine
Lens contrast, and scene contrast, are two vastly different issues. The latter, is strictly a matter of "brightness range". And the only way to deal with it, is to lower contrast on the scene itself. This of course is done with lighting(or waiting for light), and sometimes with the help of graduated ND filters. anthony johns
So ya, both of the 160 portrait lines should be pretty low. Have you though about fuji reala 100?
anthony johns
These were some pretty high conrast scenes shot on reala(though I'm not really sure if dwaynes touched the contrast when processing): <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s286/badfella518/07850001edited.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s286/badfella518/07850011edited-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
