Fire in Tokyo

A few weeks ago a local preteen kid decided to see what would happen when a

lighter flame came into contact with a bunch of fireworks. At the time, the

fireworks were stacked on shelves at Olympic, a DIY/home appliance store nearby

where I live in Tokyo.

The resulting fire attracted quite a bit of attention, including 40 fire trucks,

15 or so helicopters, crowds of onlookers, and the odd policeman who could be

bothered to walk the distance.

From the spectator point of view, the fire was mostly black, billowing smoke

with a smell akin to melting white goods. However, it did afford me the chance

to shoot the locals. In color.

I like the Texting pic too , it is so often the first thing that people seem todo in

these situations .

The schoolboy one has the Clive France trait I feel , you seem to have a eye

for taking pictures where there often just one person out of many seems to

connect with you and your lens .whilst the others are oblivious. I like that ..

Finally had some time to look at your other photos in the series without having to hurry through. I have a few favorites: the large guy dressed in white with shades, the fire chief leaving the store, the man with the cane--they're really wonderful. I wonder what the fire chief thought of you. . . anyhow, nice work!--Emily
