w/nw : Saturday night at the Silver Peso

Recommended Posts

In our little town of Larkspur, just a few miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge

in San Francisco, is one of the oldest watering holes in the area. The Silver

Peso. Even though I grew up here, I don't get to the Peso that often. It's

always had this gritty, uninviting character to it. A hard core biker bar (yes,

in the middle of yuppie Marin County). Over the years, it's calmed down, and I

find myself there once in a while when friends drag me out. Almost every night

on the weekends, it's a pleasant mix of regulars, and the occasional wealthy

suburban couples looking for a little grit in their tuxedo lives.

Last Saturday was a classic mix. Jumped at the the chance to head there with

some cowboy friends as cover for me and my M6. They would be the perfect

subject in shooting Fuji Neopan 1600 B&W, and pulling it a stop. Developed with

straight Microdol-X.

It was an extra treat when a well dressed (kinda) pair of couples walked in. It

appears that they just came from a wedding, and needed to hit a gritty bar for

some pool and drinks to snap them back to reality.

Just felt like sharing my little part of the world. Curious what you think of

the images, and hope you enjoy them. Thanks for having a look!

Joel, I thought they generally had a good feeling and you made very good use of the light, really series potentially, but imo you need to seriously edit down. To me this is like a little documentary, you want to choose those photos that add to the presentation. The sequence photos, to me, don't really add anything, they just repeat, also you need to keep the eye moving around. If you cut this down to about 1/3 to 1/2 its size at least, I think you'd have a really fine set of photos. Hope you don't mind the eval. But these are good, just need serious paring down.

Cheers

Barry... perfect comments. Thank you very much! I know I need to trim, and I do plan on it. I feel like a comedian practicing comedy before a show! ...thank you for your honest comments, and help in pointing me in the right direction. I also plan on a little more post processing, and dirt removal.

cheers,

-J

Agree w/ Barry about improving the series through editing, but you've done quite well on these photos. The use of light, the tones, many of the compositions -- good job.

I'm a bit familiar with a neighboring burb, Mill Valley. Doesn't have a place like this though, does it ? :-)
