tiago.esquetim
Hi, i recently bought a Nikon D80 with the 18-135 lens, and do a lot of landscape photos. For now, i'm using a hoya double coated red filter 25a for my B&W pictures. I also tried a hoya uv filter from a friend, that fits the lens (67mm), but it is very bad i think, when using it, i always get flares. After doing some research i found that the hoya green label filters are low quality, So would like to hear some of your opinions on what UV, polarizer or ND filters should i buy for my actual lens? Could someone help ?? Thanks
bill_keane2
I use a thin variety, multi-coated B+W Circular Polariser, or no filter at all. I'm not saying do this, because a filter does protect the front element, but it may degrade the image, so I'm VERY, VERY careful.
tiago.esquetim
Thanks Bill ! so i guess that B+W are the filters to go with, right?I've asked around and people also recommended this brand. Because i'm a starter in Dslr cameras, (i used the Nikon coolpix 4500 for about 6 years), is there some kind of UV plus polarizer all-in-one ? bruce_margolis
When I shoot landscapes, the only filter I find I need -- if any at all -- is a circular polarizer. Well, there may be a few instances when I wish I had an ND but usually I don't use anything. I have no need at all for a UV. FWIW, the one I use is the Hoya S-HMC, virtually the same type and style as Bill mentioned.
bruce_margolis
"is there some kind of UV plus polarizer all-in-one ?" Actually, I think Hoya makes one but even the people at THK think it is junk. You can check it out for yourself at.... http://www.thkphoto.com/products/hoya/hoya-03.html
bsd230
I've had just about all the main brands and some not so well known, and I would have to say that B+W is one of the best. I like their UV, Polarizer, and their ND filters are excellent.
simon_hickie1
Photography Monthly in the UK found B+W polariser to be excellent. They also had good things to say about Hoya and, surprisingly, Kood.
rob_shooter
I used Nikon CPOL II, plus Lee ND grads etc, great for me
Mike_R1664876643
I just use the Hoya filters in the blue box these days - coated on both sides - with good success.
tiago.esquetim
Thanks to all !! Finally i have enough info to make a wise choice, and nothing better than the opinion of fellow photographers to help me decide. Now the question is ... where should i buy online?? That is, if i find them to be to expensive here in Portugal.
